We have safely arrived in Brussels, Belgium! Right now I feel like a queen. I love hostels - you get to meet heaps of really cool people in a similar situation to you - But it's a real treat when we get to spend time in a hotel with our own room and bathroom! The first thing I did is have a shower so I could use one of their nice towels. Matt and I packed those scratchy super light ones that you can buy from Kathamandu, so it's beauuuuuuutiful when we get to use real towels! We also have a television woop! Although most of the TV channels are in Dutch haha. I have just been watching the news channels since they're mostly in English.
Something really cool about watching the news is that we have seen so many places that we have travelled to on television. Like right now they are talking about issues in France, and they had filmed outside Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower!
Another story I forgot to add yesterday is that when we were walking around a man near us found a gold ring on the floor. He didn't look very rich so he obviously seemed pretty happy with himself. But then it got a bit strange as he laughed and asked us if we spoke English - when we said yes he tried to give us the ring. It was a bit awkward and we kept saying no but eventually he put it in our hands and we were like ermm ok thanks. But WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY NOW! Because suddenly he started demanding in French that we buy him coke and a sandwich. We kept saying no take your ring back, we don't have spare change on us but he kept pushing our hands away and demanding. Eventually I just said in French that what he was doing ISN'T OK and shoved the ring back in his hand, grabbed Matt and pretty much ran away. Arghhhhhhhhh!!
Today we haven't done too much. I'm having quite a lot of trouble with my left ankle so it's making getting around a bit of a challenge. We did however go for a walk past the Notre Dame Cathedral again, check out the Pantheon and head to le Pont des Arts! It was pretty drizzly so walking around wasn't that pleasant. But we bought a padlock and locked it on the bridge. Matt locked it, I threw the keys in the river :) It was a really nice thing to do. There were also people on the bridge promoting a new perfume and I must admit, it was a really impressive campaign. There was like a silk banner across either side of the bridge, plus a huge billboard in the background - and then the people promoting it looked REALLY nice and fancy, whilst giving out testers of the perfume and using a camera to take photos of people for free which automatically print out. When the photos have printed they put them in a little case that promotes the perfume again, but it's really nice to keep since it has the location and the date in a pretty font. Woo Georgio Armani!
Something naughty that Matt and I have done is forget to eat properly quite a lot. It's easy to do when you're so busy. But today we had some super yummy Turkish food as I finally found a Turkish place that did falafel, yummm!!!
I'm not sure what we are going to do in Brussels. We arrived at about 9pm local time and walked from the bus station to our accommodation which was only about 400m. But it was REALLLYY dodgey and scary and Matt and I decided not to do any night time exploring. It's strange how you always hear so much bad stuff about America and the crime there, yet in Europe we honestly feel like 100 x more scared.
