First of all - I promise you guys the blogs will get shorter. I noticed they have gotten progressively longer and I know it makes it far more difficult to follow!
Today was a relaxing day :) We woke up to a hostel breakfast of cereal and juice. I have uploaded a Facebook photo of the ridiculous size of portions here - the milk and juice were in a one gallon bottle, which is 3.7litres. The margarine and jam were both also in huge containers. It was one of the first thing I've noticed since being in America. Even when I purchased a single slice of pizza on Venice Beach, it was the size of at least half a dominoes pizza back in New Zealand! Matt and I also went to get lunch at a fast food restaurant called "In and Out". Matt bought a double burger which was MASSIVE and so cheap. It was about US$3.30 for a burger with double meat, double cheese, salads, etc. I bought a subway, but even with that they put double cheese in as if it was standard practice! So yeah, if you come to the U.S. prepare yourselves for ridiculously oversized portions!
We also went to the mobile store to get a U.S. simcard and top up! We paid US$90 for sim card, plus one month of unlimited data, unlimited texting and unlimiting calling (including texts to international mobiles and calls to international landlines!). If you are in the U.S. for at least three weeks, I would definitely recommend it. US$90 sounds like a lot but the hassle you have trying to get wi-fi in hostels can really be a pain. It means that you can easily stay in touch with your family, as well as get access to things like using the maps on your phone, googling where things are and so on!
Today we stayed at the beach area again and visited both Venice Beach and Santa Monica beach. We did heaps of walking, but managed to check out a lot of great sites and enjoy the local street entertainment. You really can't get bored in Venice Beach - there is everything from crazily talented skateboarders in the skate park, massive gatherings all joining in on the beach to play drums, street dancing, singing, and so on. Santa Monica was pretty cool too since there was a mini theme park, lots of amusement things etc. But I think you could only really check it out once, whereas with Venice Beach you could visit multiple times and there would still be new things to see!
No idea what the plan is for tomorrow, but keep following! :)
P.S. we are staying in a great hostel called Venice Beach Hostel on 1515 Pacific Avenue. Definitely would recommend - price includes breakfast, dinner, and wi-fi! Plus perfect location as it is two minutes from the beach ;)

Nan If you make them too short then we will think you aren't doing anything and we want to hear everything. Don't have to many supersize lunches or you will turn into a blobby lol, love you xxxxxx
