Steph's Travels
New Delhi, India
We arrived two days ago now and we've spent most of that time sightseeing around Old and New Delhi. We saw the Red Fort in Old Delhi and then maybe two or three really beautiful old temples, where I had to wear a sari because my shoulders were bare, it didn't help that it was boiling hot already! Then in New Delhi we saw all the Presidents houses and all the British built buildings. It was very different to Old Delhi with its tiny roads and sacred cows all over the place!
The thing that's got to me the most I think is the poverty of some places here. I thought I knew what to expect because I'd read that it's like that, but when little kids come up to your car and beg for food and money and they have a little baby in their arms, you realise you didn't know what to expect at all.
Delhi has been a huge culture shock and I can't wait to see whether the South of India is very much different to here. We are stopping one more night in Delhi and then we are off on a tour of the Golden Triangle (Agra and Jaipur). We come back to Delhi for one more night and then we have a flight to catch to Goa and we'll probably stay in the South of India for a few weeks. So it should be another mad experience anyway!
