We arrived in Hoi An fine. We stopped off at Na Trang for the day - it was a really nice beach town. We both wished we had longer in Vietnam, so we could have spent more time there. The train to Danag was the nicest sleeper I've been on, but still not as good as we'd hoped -for $22! We did get our own compartment though, and a free bottle of water, and a duvet!! (first duvet I’ve had!) We got to Danang on time and then a share taxi here. Decided that the train wasn't really worth the extra money, so we're going to try the long haul bus to see how it compares! We're getting one tomorrow at 2pm - getting to Hanoi at 6am - not sure how I'll feel after that!
Claire and I have had a cool time in Hoi An - we’ve basically spent 3 days shopping. We did try to do some sights today, but got so distracted by shops that we failed on the sight seeing bit. Hoi An is really lovely -very quaint town - lots of really old buildings - and sooooooooo many tailors!! You can get anything you want made here! Including shoes!! We've gone a bit mad on the shopping- I've had 6 shirts tailored, 3 skirts, a suit and 2 long winter coats!! spent so much money (but a fraction of what it would have cost in the UK) Claire has bought a similar number of things. We both had shoes made too - took some pages from Glamour and Marie Claire of the shoes we wanted- didn't quite turn out as we'd expected!! Think it's better to stick with clothes! Tomorrow we're going to get a crate from the post office and send it all home - if any of Claire's family are reading this, please warn Jill and John that there'll be a rather large parcel coming their way. I think we'll probably send it to Claire's house, because she gets home before me (because when I asked her what date she was coming home - she told me the date she lands, not the date she leaves - so I'm leaving a day later!)
Also- today we got bullied by this crazy woman in the market into having some "beauty treatment". I was just going to get a pedicure- which I enjoyed - But then the insane woman decided I should get my legs threaded - after much discussion I was submissive and agreed. Oh My Good God! Why would anyone put themselves through that!! I can't remember a time when I have ever been in so much pain for so long! It was terrible! For those of you who don't know - threading is basically pulling each hair out, one by one - so imagine the pain when one hair is pulled slowly on your legs, then times it by a million and then imagine that lasting for a whole hour!! It was so stressful - I would never advise anyone to put themselves through it - it's not worth it. She promised me smooth legs after too - my legs still feel prickly!! So now I have blotchy, bruised legs that are still hairy, I feel like I've been assaulted and I'm $6 poorer!! And to top it all off - Claire got a massage which looked much more enjoyable - I definitely made a poor choice! At least I know what threading's like now- I am no longer curious.
