Arrived on Waiheke island yesterday evening after an epic journey. Like zombies on the ferry and got picked up by Tim from Moana Vista who drove us back to the B&B and delivered tea and shortbread to our room. I was ready to go straight to bed at about 8, but C insisted that we should have a jacuzzi first, which I'll admit, was worth the effort. Then passed out at about 10pm, only for both of us to wake up at 1:15 feeling wide awake. Fortunately, C had had the foresight of packing sleeping tablets, so after taking one of those, we managed to fall asleep again, and woke up feeling tip top at about 8:30. So much for jet lag.
Decided to walk to Matiatia Bay via the coastal route to see if we could buy ferry tickets for our Friday departure (we couldn't). The tramp was worth it though - the sun was hot and the wind was strong; but the views were stunning. Picturesque turquoise sea with moored boats bobbing gently, lush green hills and not a cloud in the sky.
After a brief pause for lunch, we continued along the coastal path to Church Bay en route to Mudbrick Vineyard. It was $10 for tasting wine, but it was a welcome stop. Our 40 and 31 year old knees were starting to complain about all the walking! We tramped a bit further via Blackpool beach (no tower here though!) and cut back towards Oneroa. Made a beeline for the B&B for a rest before dinner.
Slightly sunburnt after all the outdoor pursuits today, but with a belly full of nice food; I'm sure we'll sleep well tonight again :)
