Colonia
On Saturday, 07.05.11 I left Carlos (Couchsurfer) house in "Belgrano" (suburb in Buenos Aires) at 8am. I quickly said "Good Bye" to him as he was still asleep.
At 9.30am I crossed the massive river "RIO DEL PLATA" by ferry and three hours later I arrived in COLONIA in URUGUAY. The ferry ride was very pleasant and smooth and as usual on my journeys I wrote my travel stories.
When I arrived at the Hostel "El Viejero" in COLONIA I checked in straight away for two nights as a lot of Backpackers have told me that Colonia is worth while staying for a few nights.
COLONIA with its 23.000 inhabitants is the "weekend trip" for a lot of people in Buenos Aires as it is so close by. Although it is a quite touristy town I definitely fell in love with it and its cobbled street, gorgeous harbour, many cafes, restaurants and artisan shops. For the two days I just strolled along the harbour, through the "barrio historico" and went up the lighthouse for an amazing view over the "Rio de la Plata".
If you want to see the beauty of COLONIA check out my photo album "Colonia / Uruguay"!!
