My European Escapades
Yesterday we settled into the Kartause (Shirlea and I are in "the Princess Tower") and then received a tour of the Kartause. Later that night there was a social, but a lot of the students left early to go to Urs (local Austrian pub that caters to FUS students), where I discovered my new favorite drink, an Appleswirl (Apple juice, vodka, and cinnamon). I also tried this thing called a Frog with Bacardi in it, but it tasted like sun tan oil and I didn't like it so much. Today we got a huge tour of the surrounding area - took a ferry on the Danube, climbed up this mountain to see some castle ruins (it took me a little longer to make it up, but I got to the very top!!!), then had a fancy (and paid for by the University) lunch with some famous Austrian white wine. Then, the coolest part - we had Mass in the breathtaking Baroque Benedictine monastery, and I was asked to cantor the music. My knees were shaking to be in the sanctuary of this beautiful place.
Classes start Thursday, but this weekend everyone goes to Vienna! More updates to come.
