Peru, South America with Fiona - STA Travel Auckland Central Branch Manager
Fiona did a 15 day Panorama tour with GAP adventures
This tour had everything! Jungle, wildlife, exploring ancient ruins and visiting colourful markets.
It included all types of accommodation, hotels, camping, jungle lodge and homestay and all types of transport you can imagine.
Highlights:
There were so many. Staying with a local Peruvian family on Lake Titicaca was one of my favourites. They were the nicest people and it was such a spectacular place to stay!
The Amazon jungle was amazing, after a quick flight to the jungle and a canoe ride down the river we arrived at our beautiful lodge and were greeted with cool drinks. Over the few days we saw so much wildlife and really experienced what the jungle had to offer. Perana fishing was so much fun.
Best of all had to be the trek to Machu Picchu. We saw some amazing scenery and met loads of locals on our 3 days camping trek. The porters who came with us and cooked for us and carried all our stuff were outstanding, and then to arrive at Machu Picchu that early morning was something I will never forget.
Lowlights:
Getting altitude sicknses on the second day of the tour kinda sucked but the tour guides were so brilliant and I got over it by that evening.
100% humidity in the jungle, but what to you expect it's the amazon jungle!
Tips:
Don't pack too much but pack for different extremes, winter and summer hats and suncream and of course good walking shoes.
Don't be afraid to do the trek to Machu Picchu, I could do it and I wouldn't be even able to run for the bus!
I reccommend this trip for groups of friends, couples, travellers on a budget, everyone -
go to South America!
Total holiday cost
15 day tour $3019.00
Return flights to Lima $1400.00
Score out of 10
10/10....I couldn't have asked for a better holiday
