A vote over breakfast and, being a democratic family, we decided to go to the British Museum. Miles took all the dirty washing to the local Laundromat for a quick wash - such a pain on holidays to carry the dirties, but such a relief when it's all clean again. Two hours it would take and GB10, but closed by midday (so best not to be late!)
The Museum was literally 3 minutes walk around the corner and we arrived at opening time. We all admired the Rosetta Stone on our way to the Parthenon sculptures. It seemed half of Athens and then Egypt were in the next door rooms. Then upstairs to pass by the oldest man discovered in a peat marsh in Cheshire, admiring the oldest chess set found, and really the highlights of the Museum. An hour later and the rush tour complete, Rory and I found the local Lloyds and managed to extract some cash, whilst the washing was collected by the others.
So Hampton Court of shopping??? Shopping was the winner this day… perhaps a little too much history for the Stantons and we had seen some sales down Oxford Street that attracted some members of the family.
Richard is now fully equipped with jumpers, jeans, long-sleeved shirts for his 3 winters in a row, Rory has a smart new summer outfit and Claire just couldn't decide between 3 tops at Gap and somehow, weak moment, persuaded me that she needed all 3 - good for her current layered fashion.
Exhausted!! Throbbing feet and a sore head and none of that cash from this morning… Off to dinner with Jane Stanley/Pirrie near Wimbledon. Train and taxi from the station, and we were greeted warmly outside their Spanish-inspired space ship of a house… A lovely quiet area with a football field of a back lawn, with an enormous rose garden in full bloom, swimming pool that one could happily do laps in, and such a big house of which we only saw one corner.
Sophia and Claire did some craft - making Rapunzel's castle I believe before Scarlet returned from a party (no sugar apparently, only chocolate cake and smarties!) We sat outside in the sun, drank some elderberry cordial, and had a feast for dinner with some brownies and fresh berries - lovely to catch up with all the Pirrie goings-on. The girls are delightful, and far too short a time to catch up.
Home a little too late, we're going to be tired for our travel day tomorrow!

Weaze Brilliant blogs Mrs Stanton - really do feel I'm there with you - but where's Rory's contribution (and Claire and Rich for that matter!). Horrible weekend - very cold, very wet and about to be very windy. And to top it off, a day in the office (on Sunday!). Safe travels and much love to you all. W xo
