StAcEy'S SpEcTaCuLaR SuMmEr
Hi Everyone! I know the site is boring, but if you saw how slow the internet onnections are, you would be put off it too! Maybe when i get to Tiaan's i'll stick some uo - but then again his connection is pretty s***e! lol.
Anywho, we are now on the gorgeous island of Zanzibar - as some of you know it had the shortest war in history, being just 45mins and as most of you won't know Freddie Mercury was born here. i can't do a day by day entry scheme anymore as I can't remember it all in succession.
Yesterday I went on a 'swimming with dolphins' tour. It would have been fabulous if I wasn't sea-sick on the boat and spent the time people were awe-stricken at the sight of them vomiting over the side - real good! So I missed out on what someone described as 'The best time of their life" - talk about rub it in. I did get to see the red colobus monkeys however and take in a Stunning view. The water is as blue as you'd imagine, and the sun is extremmel;y hot. i feel like I am in the Arabian Nights however, as this place has 95% Muslims. Basically the arabs colonised this part of Africa, and because if it, the whole place doesn't look quite right - Africans wearing Burkhas - bit different.
Today i went on a spice tour, and got to see how all the spices grow - very different to how you'd imagine - and also went around the old sights of 'Stonetown', learning about how the country's history evolved. Turned out Christian missionaries actually helped the place, and abolished slavery - how about that!?
Ruth (travelling buddy) has been really sick on the tour so far, so that was pretty hard. We spent a night in Arusha hospital - which is a grand experience. Woke up to her wheeling a drip past me as I slept on the floor. She's getting better now, and is back to good health which I am really thankful for.
Whilst in Kenya, we vistited the Ngorogoro Crater, which is this vast canyon in the middle of Africa. It's all lush green with loads of healthy animals, and looks a bit like cloud forest. The most amaziong sight was the lion and lioness playfighting - that was pretty cool to watch. The crater was formed from a mountaint he size of Mount Kilimanjaro, concaving when tectonic plates moved apart. It was fairly impressive to see, especially when your inside it looking at the clouds spilling in from the top!
I have to go now, as there is a fish markt to attend for grub! mmm...Octopus. Hope everyone's well, and see you all soon.x
