Stacey's Adventures
As soon as I got settled in, there was a huge noise outside my window! I got up and realized it was the Parade Carrusel for the Festival Viedimia(Wine Festival)! It is all in celebration of the local wine harvest! I headed out to check it out! Wow! It is a huge deal there! All in all, the parade lasted over 4 hours! It just seemed to keep coming and coming! I didn`t stay in one place for the whole time but wandered around the city watching it as I went!
I really came here for the Wine Festival! It sounded interesting and fun, but I came away with a lot more than that! This isn`t really about the wine; it`s a celebration of the culture, the heritage, the land, the people, the entire country! People come from all over for this! This is them celebrating what made them what they are, who made them what they are, and how it made them what they are! I am so glad I am here to experience all this!
After another siesta and shower, my roomates and I were off to the "bodegas"(wineries/tasting rooms) to sample some local wine! Well, that didn`t work out quite as planned! The father we went with didn`t really know his way around after all and we spent quite a bit of time wandering since most places were closed due to the late hour or the weekend!
One man from another closed winery felt sorry for us and took us to 2 wineries! The tours were great, but we were only allowed one taste at each place; not enough to really get a feel for their wine!
Back in town, I took off to find the wine tasting tent for the festival, but NO ONE had even heard of such a thing, despite there being an article about it in every paper in town! HMMM!! A couple blocks away at Plaza Espana there was a huge food and craft fair that I decided to check out! There were so many things that looked amazing! I settled on a tent that had great looking tapas and vino!
After watching the ceremonies for a while, I went back to get my roomate to join me! Maria and I headed back and devoured the best tasting paella EVER!! We watched the rest of the cermonies, the proceedings of the Grand Finale, and the selection of the Harest Queen! This whole evening is a huge deal in Argentina; even the President came to watch along with many dignitaries and members of Congress! We missed the Gay Vidiema since it was so late and called it an "early" night(2am), at least by Argentinian standards!
