We flew from Bangkok down to Surat Thani and spent an unnecessary amount of time waiting for the pre booked bus and boats, then eventually we arrived in koh phangan. We were dropped off in haad rin and left to find our hotel! Tophill...how hard could it be?? With our rucksacks on we set off like max and paddy on the road to nowhere! After about an hour we found the hotel and it was definitely at the top of the hill!! We were greeted at the 'hotel' by mr tee (a Thai hippie with a horrendous lisp!!) who told to 'chill' and 'take care'. I rung out my t shirt and sunk a Chang that didn't touch the sides!! The view from the shack was pretty incredible but that was probably the only thing... How I didn't break my neck on the rickety stairs is still a mystery to me! It wasn't quite 'wonderland' as mr tee continued to describe it has but it was good enough for us! We chilled out for the night, had some shark for tea and watched the Liverpool match with some scousers...they weren't too happy but we enjoyed it!! The next day was the full moon party! We did a bit of obligatory shopping and bought the necessary shorts (hotpants) for the evening! Then the rain came for a few hours or should I say monsoon? So we had to have a few more changs whilst playing cards! Then it was time for mr tees infamous full moon warm up BBQ! The barracuda was pretty good! Then we coated ourselves in luminous body paint and went into town! Watched the man u match then headed to the beach!! Drinking a couple of buckets, dancing about like idiots and taking the Michael out of people followed! we somehow managed to get safely back into the shack before the sun came up and had a couple of hours sleep before waking up to get on a boat to koh samui!! As you may well know, I'm not great at hangovers so this wasn't the best of days for me but surprisingly the score did not rise to 4-0!
Koh samui
We arrived in koh samui and slept for a few hours before feeling refreshed and entering the town! Koh samui is an awesome place with loads of excellent bars and restaurants! We had a few beers, listened to a class jazz and bongo group and then hustled some more free beers from a little bar by playing pool! Getting bloody good at this game now! The next day we found a place called nid's bungalows and booked the night there, really smart place by the lake for £6 each. After dropping off the bags we discovered a great little place called football golf, (basically golf but you kick a football into the holes instead) after an eventful 18 holes, including ed kicking his ball over the fence, me slicing off half my big toe nail and rain for the final two holes, I scored my first ever negative golf score of a 1 under 65 and ed managed 69! 'golf is not a stressful game, just ask any of my ex wives' was an apt little quote we picked up on the way round! We went out for an 'all you can eat meat' tea and definitely got our money's worth...must have eaten a full pig between us, but felt the repercussions for the rest of the evening. Hours later we had a few beers when we managed to fit them in and again beat some small girls 'must have been midgets' at pool acquiring more free beer...probably not a fair game you may think, But one of them was unbelievably good!
We went to bed for a few hours and then had to be up for the bus at half 6! After numerous phone calls from us, we managed to get picked up about half 7 and were taken to the ferry port to find the boat had unsurprisingly left! however the Thai lady decided to treat us to some breakfast and refunded our tickets, very nice people!! However we have had to change our plans and spend a night in krabi before going to koh phi phi the following day
