We didn't feel we had experienced enough death for one day and decided to go to the S21 prison on the way home! Not the nicest place either, hundreds of cells, some merely 2ft x 5th wide that held thousands of people before they were sent to the killing fields! It's crazy to think that this was just 30 years ago! Some of the top people in the khyme rouge have not even been sentenced yet... A little bit bent if you ask me!
Anyway thats enough of the serious stuff...
We beat a 60 year old yank and his 20 year old Thai bride at pool that night! Off to Siem Reap on another 6 (8)hour bus ride! Here they have a street called bar street! I feel tonight may be another heavy one!!
Siem reap... Bar street lives up to it's reputation and is pretty lively, just a quiet one for us though, as eddie's stomach isn't the best! Early start for Angkor Wat the next day...also proved to be an expensive one! We were picked up by the tuktuk driver at 9 who drove us to 'the wonder'. $20 each to get in to the temples. There are hundreds of temples to see but we only needed a day to see the major ones. Angkor Wat was huge and very impressive, we walked around for about an hour before moving to the next temple. But to be quite honest... A temple is a temple to me so they were all very similar! We stopped at angkor thom and bayon before calling at ta prohm otherwise known as the tomb raider temple. This in my opinion was the best, surrounded by a jungle and where Lara croft famously swung through the temple.
After this we stopped for some dinner, Cambodian steak with French fried (possibly dog... it was very chewy!!) then of to the floating Market. Another $15 each to get on a little boat for an hour! Whilst on this boat we agreed to donating some resources to a local floating orphanage school on the river. We didn't realise that a pack of paper would be $10 from the floating shop so that was all the school got I'm afraid. We took it to the school and they looked pretty happy! Then off to the crocodile and fish farm also floating on the river. (basically just two little cages with fish and crocs) however a little lad was walking around with a snake, so I kept him in eyeshot and didn't get too close!! We both had a go driving the boat but the guide's instructions weren't too clear, when he meant left...he said right!!
On the return leg of the boat journey, a little Cambodian lad started to hit me on the back for about 20 minutes (some would call it a massage, I personally would call it a dead back!!) then it came to tipping the crew of three for their hospitality! Another $5! Then the tuktuk driver dropped us off at the hotel, another $20 each for his services! Resulting in a great day but had an affect on the pocket, siem reap - NOT cheap! Then the customary BIG rain for an hour when we returned to the hotel!
The next day was spent around the pool to even out the spending of the previous day!!ha! Next stop a brief visit to Bangkok for a night out with matty for his 30th before a flight down to the full moon!
