So I'd say it's been a while since my last posting.... and I have no excuses at all for you. I admit, I've been really taking advantage of this whole one class three days a week thing, I love it! I'm sure going to have a tough time returning to EC! The other day, I was complaining to my dad about all the papers I have to write, and he reminded me I'm here to study, not just travel! That was a big slap in the face. haha.
For my examination for Contemporary Sweden I had to write three seperate papers about migration, and politics, and religion. I think they are in the order of the best written to worst written too! Migration was the easiest to write since a lot of it was my personal experience and knowledge of migrating to Minnesota, so it was a fun one to write and learn about. Then politics I aimed it at Special Education, so of course it was easy for me to write about! The religion aspect was just blah. Since Sweden is really a secularized country it was hard to find a good topic. One thing I learned while being here is that it is hard to support and be strong in your own identity. I mean the friends I've met here and Swedes I've met all laugh when religion is brought up. They don't believe in a God, or a higher being. No one goes to church here on Sundays, and few people are baptized or confirmed. It is the least "religious" country! Crazy huh?
So these papers I had to turn in today to my teahcer (they really aren't due until next week) but since I am giong to RUSSIA! I had to get everything done... then it is off to see the rents in London! Woo hoo! 3-week vacation here I come! I'm very excited for this, as it will be the first time leaving Sweden! (Don't get me wrong, I love it here, but c'mon! I'm in EUROPE!) I'm all packed and ready to go on VACATION for 3 weeks!
Oh, and the reason I said that name about the city was because lately it's been the goofiest weather. Now I know I mention how odd it is here as far as the weather goes, but seriously... Let me give you an update. Last week was GORGEOUS! I mean I walked to campus with my spring coat on, wearing jeans and a t-shirt. In the sun, my clock said it was 81 Degrees! It was beautiful. All the snow and ice was gone and people were out walking around the lake. Then on Thursday it rained, and rained, and rained. (When it rains here, it really RAINS). Then Friday was beautiful again and I went outside for a run. Saturday was windy and cold and rainy. It was wet and in the morning it SNOWED. Like flurries for about 3 hours! I dont get it. Sunday and Monday (today) were the same thing, snow, sleet, rain, HAIL!, windy, sun, heat, cold. Yes, I said hail. and the wind! my gosh I cant even open my window a crack without it blowing open. Oh well... when I go to Russia it will be in the high 40's and low 50's! I think Spring is here!
After Russia it's like I won't be here as often, I love it! I'm going to Estonia for a weekend on a ferry with the International Students, then to Stockholm for my history class, then I will be staying for a weekend with Roy and Lena Bengtsson (relatives!)! I'm excited to meet them, Roy is Marianne's brother so then I will have met the whole family! After Stockholm, I go to see moose and how to make glass in Sweden with the International Students, then off to NORWAY to visit my friend Anna! :) She is studying right now in Ireland and we are going to get together for a weekend!
I am thinking more and more about my last month here. I am done with classes on May 27 and I can move out the next day if I wanted to... I think I want to! If I get a Eurail pass for one month, I can travel 18 countries! What a perfect chance to see Europe in one month... I cannot wait. BUT until that time comes, I'll be on Spring Break for 3 weeks, hopefully I can post Russia pictures!, then come back to take Swedish Literature and Films class. It's only been two months here and it's gone by very fast, but at the same time I feel right at home and that I've been here forever! (Does that make sense?) T- 10 days until Mom and Dad are here! See you soon!
Love, me
