We left Ho Chi Minh City at 8pm and boarded our overnight train to Nha Trang. The train was actually a lot nicer than I expected. There were four to a cabin, we had our own TV and aircon, so it was pretty comfortable! The journey was meant to take 9 and a half hours, but we stopped about 3 hours into it for about 2 hours because the front carriage broke loose apparantly! How interesting! But I did manage to sleep quite a bit, so it wasn't too bad.
Once we arrived in Nha Trang, half of the group decided to go on a boat trip around 4 different islands, assuming we were going to be doing a bit of snorkelling and have a bit of beach time, but the weather was awful! The first island was really interesting (Martin interpretation if 'interesting'...), there was an aquarium and nothing else to do if we didn't want to go to it! So most of us just sat around for about 45 minutes!
The highlight of the trip was was the lunch. That was actually really good. We all sat on the top of the boat and there were a couple of ladies on board cooking the food. There was so much and it was all really lovely! The leader of the boat tour then announced that it was too cold in the water for us to go swimming, so we all had to drink red wine instead! Haha. I didn't drink anything because I get quite sea sick, but a few of the other guys downed 3 bottles pretty quickly!
After getting home from the boat trip, we all had naps and showered etc and went out for dinner as a group as it was one of the girl's birthdays. We went to a really lovely restaurant and again, I am embarassed to admit, I had spaghetti carbonara, it was good though, so no regrets! We then went on to a few bars and then ended up in a bar by the beach which was great. Such great views and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!
Today, we have until 9pm until we catch our overnight train to Hoi An, half of the group are taking motorbikes out into the countryside to try snake...I bailed on that one! But I sort of wish I was going now as I've got 9 hours to kill without a hotel room! Though, I've already tried crocodile and crickets, so I think that's enough! For now at least anyway!
