Night location: Amsterdam
This morning we were greeted by a clear blue sky. Perfect conditions for walking around Amsterdam. David had researched a cafe called Little Collins that had been opened by some people from Melbourne. They reportedly offered an Australian brunch so we thought it would be a nice way to start off our Sunday morning.
We caught a tram to the cafe and were the first to arrive at 9:00. This was undoubtedly the highlight of our day as the coffee was great and the food was fantastic.
The next stop was Rembrandt square where an art market is set up every Sunday. We purchased an artwork to hang on our lounge room wall that will remind us of our time here.
From here we walked through the flower market which lines a canal and sells thousands of different bulbs to plant in your own garden. Sadly Australian customs would have a fit if we attempted to bring any back.
The main attraction of the day was a visit to the Anne Frank House Museum. Upon our arrival we joined a queue that wound past shops, a large square and a church with the entry nowhere to be seen. Three hours later we arrived at the front door freezing cold and exhausted. The visit was fascinating as we worked our way up narrow staircases into the secret annexe. At the end was the original copy of Anne Frank's diary with some translated pages around the room. She dreamed of being a famous writer and we honoured her today by lining the streets and waiting to see a glimpse of her horrific history. By the time the visit was over, refreshments were required so we slumped into the museum cafe and enjoyed a much needed rest.
Feeling slightly revived we ventured into a boutique area known as The Nine Streets. Being Easter Sunday, many shops were closed, however Amber found a beautiful jewellery store that was open.
After a short rest back in our apartment we ventured back to the Nine Streets for dinner at Bussia, a modern Italian restaurant that David had booked us into. We chose the four course option and everything we ate was intricately presented and had delightful flavour combinations. We both agree that this is right up there with our favourite restaurant anywhere in the world. A fantastic way to finish our time in Amsterdam.

Althea Halliday Hello darlings How wonderful to read this blog. It is written with such attention to detail,a perennially effective element that allows us to see and feel the experience. I simply love the flowers, and the photo of you, Amber, standing by the daffodils, together with the photo of the flower market made my heart sing. I also really appreciate the photos of the architecture and the canals and all the bikes, and what about that shot of the cheese with the reflection of the buildings in the glass? How good was that! I am so glad that you visited Anne Frank's house. I remember reading years ago how she wanted to 'go on living after [her] death', and she is, and I thought your comment re paying respect to her words was very appropriate. The pictures of Delft were also very beautiful and understandably your attention was caught by the long held tradition of porcelain art. All the best as you set out for Lund and Sund country in Denmark and Sweden. Love as ever, Mum xx
