Night location: Copenhagen
Being our final day in Denmark we decided to spend the day exploring the city. After a leisured breakfast we set off for the residence of Queen Margrethe II and more importantly, Princess Mary and Prince Frederik. Only a short walk from our hotel, we arrived at Amalienborg Palace which consists of four identical palaces around an octagonal square. Also of note was The Marble Church with its impressive green copper dome just outside the palace complex.
On our way back towards the city centre we stopped in at an excellent cafe. It is clear that the Danes know how to make a proper cup of coffee!
The Amber Museum was our next stop where we learned about how Amber is formed, found and polished into various shapes. There was an excellent shop attached to the museum but Amber didn't find any piece that she loved or could afford!
One of the attractions of Copenhagen is its long pedestrianised shopping street called Stroget. It is on this street that one finds designer labels including Georg Jensen. Amber was successful in purchasing from here as, just as the slogan suggested, 'dreams really do come true!'
We continued our walk in the direction of The National Museum where we hoped to discover more about Danish history. Sadly the museum was maze like and we ended up in the antiquity section when we were looking for modern history! Fortunately it was free!
By the time we navigated our way out of the museum we were in need of a lunch stop. We seem to be having very good luck for lunch as we found an open air cafe that served gourmet burgers. Due to the relatively mild weather, we were able to sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy our meal.
We returned to the hotel for an afternoon rest before again heading to Nyhavn for a light dinner finished off with waffles and ice cream. Tomorrow we head to Poland.

Althea Halliday Hello darlings The blogs are wonderful. So informative and as always, so rich in detail. And aren't the photos splendid! There you are, beanied and scarved and gloved and jacketed, as you said, and there are the blue-skied days. Thank you for keeping us so much up to date. Today you would have been travelling to Poland, and tomorrow is your wedding anniversary. Can you believe that it is four years since we were swept up in the beauty and the sound and the sheer joy? Take care. I will be thinking of you as you visit Auschwitz. How important it is to treasure each day, and each other. Love as ever, Mum xx
