There's a bloody gecko in my bed..aaahhhh!...and I'm totally alone with no one to rescue me!
So i'm in the North of Thailand.. after just leaving Bangkok... and the craziest 4 nights of my life. The Lonely Planet quotes "get ready for a roller coaster when you hit Bangkok"...its def not kidding! I'd barely arrived at the hostel and sat down, when i was already invited out! And as i can't say no...it was the start of a drinking, tuk tuk, ping pong, blur of an experience. I was only meant to stay for 2 nights and literally had to force myself to get out after the 4th night. I met so many great people...who probably made the experience that whole much better.
But...first lets back track a bit, so i can fill some of you in on my adventures!
*Shanghai was pants...don't know if it was just the hostel that i stayed in, as it had no one there, or that it never stopped raining or that all the "IT" places to see where under construction.lol....but it was just rubbish. I went to a pretty garden, China's most famous tea house and took the bullet train to the airport later (the world's fastest train)...but that's it..only stayed one night and then escaped. To be totally random, i didn't go straight to HK from here, but backtracked to Chengdu to see the pandas.
*Chengdu and The HOTpot! You think you've tried spicy...you have no idea until you have a Hot Pot! You all sit round a table with a stove in the middle and order a load of raw food and a big bowl of oil...ranging from mild to extreme heat and cook away....next time though i'm listening to my instincts and not being naive when others offer to order for me.lol.
*The pandas were def worth the trip...nearly missed them though as i woke up late and had to run after the mini bus with my clothes in my hand.lol...Walked around with my pj's in a plastic bag all day.lol. You literally don't have time to shower some days....lol
*Met two nice guys who invited me along with them to Chongqing to do the Yangtze river cruise....was hardly a cruise in the end...more like a raft.lol. The reception area gives you high hopes...but the shower hose producing brown water over the squat toilet with a coach roach waiting for you in your bed..quickly brings your expectaions back down. Had 4 days of non-stop Chinese rambling on about s*** we didn't understand...but only occasionally found funny as we made up what they could be saying. Made friends with a aussie and together we were the only foreigners on the boat...who after a few drinks and teaching them Irish snap...we were know as the drunken noisy foreigners on the boat..oops. Despite it all though...i had the best time ever!
*On the "raft"...we went to China's version of the London dungeons...which were meant to be a Ghost temple, but to attract more tourists they had made it more like a messed up Disney...stopped off at a few temples (hard to know what they were when it was all in Chinese.lol)..fell asleep on the deck and have some amazing tan lines from my leggings.lol...went on a dragon boat and attempted to race...saw the Three Gorges...the Small Three Gorges and the Mini ones..and The Three Gorges Dam...thought it would be bigger???
*We all celebrated China's 60th anniversary in Wuhan with fireworks in the shapes of hearts, stars etc on the river...and ending the night in my 1st Chinese nightclub. There music is crazy...like cheesy pop...everyone knows the words and all dance like they're auditioning for the Disney Channel...then someone will randomly grab the mic and start singing word from word. Tequila shots were stupidly cheap...so it was a messy night.
*Tried my 1st sleeper bus to Guilin...wouldn't recommend it for the tall, fat, tired, hung-over or suffering from a weak bladder.lol.
*The silliness in Yangzhou- Firstly i lost my flip flop down the Li River (later to be rescued by a fisherman), then i had to go and fall in fully clothed with my bag...manage to stumble back to shore to realise i'd lost my glasses.lol...so had to crawl back out and luckily find them.
*What else....took a bamboo raft down the Li River...eat snake...did some pole dancing...let some Chinese lanterns off...rented a motorbike with Dries to go to the underground river and mud baths...Dries discovered i can't drive one...so happily took over.lol....got mud "burn" on my bot bot from being the only person to attempt to slide down the bank...and lunch at the most peaceful picturesque place ever...
Ok...bored of writing now...will update the rest later....
