It's raining...its pouring! I left England to get away from the rain...not to have more of it! When you're travelling though...you just have to pretend its not there and carry on....def making the most of my waterproof jacket.
So...I'm in Xi'an now...had complications in Mongolia and Beijing with computers again...so missed the blogs. I'm not going to write about all the boring stuff...just sum up the best. Here are some of the main bits...
*Ulaanbaatar is UGLY!- massive city construction going on, so it's one big dusty noisy mess. They don't have a subway...so you just walk, walk and walk.
*Ger camp was the best bit of Mongolia...apart from the crickets and grass hoppers! All the travel books seem to forget to mention that September is when they get swarms of them! Everywhere you walk..the ground was moving. Can hardly say i'm the biggest bug fan...so didn't handle the situation too well....but yay for me...I survived!
*Climbed some huge mountain to see the sunset...got to the top...and there was another mountain in the way!lol
*Went horse riding for 2 hours...loved it!...apart from they didn't adjust the saddle, so my knees were b*****ed! Got as fast as a gallop too!
*Our Ger tent set on fire...roof burnt down...not my fault before you ask!...but typical that it would happen to me! No one was hurt luckily...but don't think we're welcome back.lol
*Had my first scary experience...got followed home by a local and had to hide out in a shop for a while...and then basically ran home.
*LOVED Beijing! Will 100% go back! People have been the nicest so far...city really clean and so easy to get around-Went to the Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Great wall (got a zip wire back down), rented a bike (there really are 10 million bicylcles in Beijing!), had a Chinese pedicure (which included cupping)....had tears in my eyes, it hurt so much....eaten LOADS of food...mastered the art of chop sticks and then nearly missed my train.
Thousand of photos of the above to come...
So...I'm on my own now...no tour group for security...but seem to be managing ok. Keep having ups and downs....sometimes i'll be walking around perfectly happy and content and the next...i get a wave of extreme home sickness and feel really lonely. Its only been a month...so i guess it will just take time. God dam my family for passing on the crying gene though!lol
Isn't much to do is Xi'an apart from the Terricota warriors...would say its worth the visit, but def overpriced to see them. The hostel is amazing though. Met so many ppl in just 2 days...lots of yanks! In a 4 bed dorm with all boys...dosn't seem to be many single girl travellers in China. Mastered a few ways to get dressed under a towel now.lol. Got to make some dumplings last night and then eat them...all for free!...and each night you get a free beer (still trying to like beer though.lol).
Off to Shanghai tomor...hopefully...need to book my train ticket first, which should be an experience. Going to take a day out there, just to sleep and catch up on emails...so i'm sorry for all those that i haven't replied too....miss you all and always thinking of you.
