New York, New York
This is the first blog entry of mine and chaz's world tour. Currently in New York 3rd day here, and it's not stopped being short of an oven! Arriving in the heat after a long plane journey was a nice change from England and luckily for us jet lag wasn't much of an issue. Arriving at the small but clean and tidy hotel, we put our bags away and went off finding something to eat, both in the mood for Chinese. After struggling to work the subway system (so much more complicated than London's!) we arrived starving in Chinatown downtown Manhattan. Definitely a change of scenery from uptown clean New York, with alot more markets and smaller shops and less impressive buildings. Nevertheless we found a decent Chinese, tasty food and cheap, always good! Making the journey back upto Union Square, which is full of performer, we spent a good 20 mins searching for an ice cream parlour and eventually resorting to and ice cream van which wasn't the nicest we'd both had, no Ben n' Jerry's at all! The long trek back upto our hotel was a good bit of exercise, something many Americans we've seen don't seem to do alot!
2nd day in New York and we'd adjusted to the time zone completely fine. Heading towards Times Square in search of a diner, which evaded us for a good half an hour, we eventually found an Italian-American one. Knowing me and Chaz, we thought it best to pick up the train tickets from Penn Station today to save us from the inevitable hassle that would have come about had we left it to the day of the train to Boston, so after picking up said tickets, we went up 5th ave, the shoppers heaven in New York, looking in various shops. One of the surprises we found on 7th avenue was the street completely closed to all cars and over 2 milesong of markets selling everything from kebabs to henna tattoos! The food all looked amazing, fresh and better than the normal street vendors in New York. After wandering through the hustle and bustle of these markets, we went for a chill in Central Park in the extreme heat of the day. Later that afternoon, after eating in a restaurant just off Times Square (simple American food done good!) we looked around several of the large shops in Times Square, and headed back to the hotel for some rest, we must have walked miles today!
