We went from Rome on the Euro Train traveling at over 160 km/hr to Florence, took just under 2 hours. Quick and easy!
Traveling past vast green countryside, beautiful old monasteries on the mountains edge, fields of produce and farm houses that depict rustic Italy.
Once in Florence we did a bus tour ( that you could jump on and off all day). First stop for us was across the river and up to the look out at the statue of Leonardo with an extraordinary view over the city. Domes shining in the sun light from the cathedrals scattered around the landscape of buildings. The river and various bridges connecting the city with the north.
Then back down to the city to explore the sites. We found the most stunning cathedral, Santa Maria Catterdral. The outside was marble with delicate details inside and out with greens and soft pinks. Extraordinary painted domes in the cathedral with rows of scenes depicting a story from the bible.
We then explored the city by foot, looked at the local markets and shops and the bride that is famous for its shops acrossing over the river...
Had a great day in Florence, different from Rome.. But would definitely recommend a visit.
Nearly missed the train back to Rome.... Relived to get to the station and discover it had been delayed 15mins.... Close!!
