Several movies and a few hours sleep later, we land at Bangkok International airport. Children initially disappointed at how familiar and "un-foreign" it all looks, and baffled as to why most of the signs are in English! Family priority (again!) through customs, and straight out, with Nothing to Declare! Then the first (of many I predict) point / smile / and hope for the best type conversations, trying to locate ticket office for bus to Pattaya, and purchasing of said tickets. 40 minute wait before departure - just enough time for another point and smile conversation to buy bottles of water, and for the kids to start to get used to the attention / tickles and smiles of the locals.
Post-dusk by the time the bus arrived in Pattaya, so our first experience of a "Bhat bus" is in the dark! Open sided flat bed van, with two bench seats, for the 6km or so journey to the R.S.Seaside hotel, Jomtien Beach. Checked in and immediately turned the air con on full blast! Straight into the best shower ever - well, that's how it felt at the time! Wandered ~500 m up the road for first authentic Thai meal: kids chose pizza, Lisa has what basically amounted to fish and chips! Dan's Thai green chicken soup was excellent (and authentic!), as were the Singha's!
Asleep by 10.30 pm.
