Set alarm for 9am, to try to get our body clocks adjusted, & managed to get downstairs for breakfast by 10. A different chap at the front desk would only give us 2 tickets for breakfast, even after being shown the online receipt that states bad and breakfast, & names four people. We sat, & shared our two person meal between the four of us, quite annoyed at the pettiness of the desk clerk. Once we had eaten, we decided to go back to the bakery for Second Breakfast, & bought a cake and a doughnut each! We walked back up to Alameda Central, to eat, & for the kids to have another go on the merry-go-round. Afterwards, we walked back to the Zocalo, to fight our way through the crowds, & stopped at a small café for coffee & cold hot chocolate (!), before going into Templo Mayor (M$41/adult) & museum. We paid an extra M$80 for an audio guide, in English, which was very informative, even if some of the commentaries were out of their correct sequence! We walked around the ruins, in the bright evening sunshine, using the audio guide to supplement the information boards dotted around the site. We entered the museum, just as the sun started to set behind the cathedral. The museum was laid out in six halls, mirroring the geography of the ruins, & thus the layout of the Inca spiritual world. We slowly wandered 'round, looking at all the artefacts, until the museum closed, at 6pm. As we were leaving, there were some "Inca Warriors" dancing in the Zocalo, so we sat and watched them for a few minutes.
We then headed out of the centre, back towards the hotel, & unsuccessfully attempted to find an ATM that would accept L's card. We spotted a "Mexican Buffet" restaurant (M$85pp), which also served Chinese food, & sat down to eat as much as possible, to get value for money! Half way through the meal, the Earth moved (!), & for a few seconds everything swayed from side to side. The initial feeling was similar to light-headedness before fainting, gradually giving way to trepidation, as the realisation dawns as to what is happening. The shaking subsided after a few seconds, & most of the diners got up & went to look outside. One man turned to us & said that it was only a "little one", & not to worry too much!
We finished our meal (the 'quake didn't spoil our appetites!) & walked back to the hotel, to discover that we had to walk up the six flights of stairs to our room, as we were not allowed to use the lift!
The kids went to bed, & D walked all the way down again, to use the hotel's wifi, which only reached the front lobby & dining room! Thankfully, by the time all emails were checked, & dealt with, it was permitted to use the elevator, saving another six flight climb!
