Matt and Ant's Travels
Starting the day with some of us (who will remain anonymous) slightly hung over after our previous nights exploits we decided to visit some of the more remote sights the Island has to offer. We hired a rather unsuspecting Maxi driver for a modest fee of 60 pounds for the whole day, little did he know what day we had planned. We visited 2 waterfalls right in the heart of the rainforest, both requiring some nifty driving to avoid the potholes and sheer 100 foot drop of the side of the road and also some trekking along some slippery moutain paths wearing only flip flops! The first waterfall we saw as you can see in the photos is really quite scenic and not shown in the photos they are also religious places decorated in flags and various religious symbols from no less than 3 religions. Sam and togay braved the waters first before being joined by the rest of the group, although the waterfall wasn't the highest it still packed a punch if you dared swim under the falling water, a good couple of hours were spent in the water surrounding the falls. We also saw a group of local lads climb the slippery banks and take a leap of faith into the waters below. The second waterfall was magnificant in comparison, standing a massive 90m above us we stood beneath the water as it fell on us below. If we decide at a later date we can walk to the top of the waterfall reacing it after a 3hr trek thru the jungle. The pictures really were unable to capture just how breathtaking this waterfall was with its height, volume and surroundings. After this we visited some pools that the water drains into from this waterfall, the walk to this was precarious to say the least with sam falling on one occasion and anni almost falling on another. The tropical rainfall didn't help on the slippery mud slopes, however, with the guidance of a local lad and his brother we made it back in one piece. Not surprisingly we decided to have an early night tonight and hope to go to the beach tomorrow
