DAY 08: Sun 11/02, Almunecar to Algeciras. 261kms. Total 1626 kms
Our final day in Spain was a pretty low key affair. Not too much of a drive but had good intentions of doing some shopping/stocking up before hitting Africa. But as it was a Sunday turns out almost everything was closed so it was not to be.
Passed through Malaga, Marbella/Costa del Sol/”Costa del Golf”. Not our cup of tea really so happy just to drive on past. Did stop in at Gibraltar for a few hours in the afternoon for one last pint in an English pub and a quick check on the 6 Nations rugby score. Was a touch disappointed really – quite dingy and not as much of a novelty the 2nd time around for me.
Made it to the ferry port in Algeciras just before 6pm. Went in and had a look around at tickets prices etc. Decided it was too late to cross to Morocco this evening and would give it a go in the morning.
Went to a near by beach for a sundowner or 2 and then camped in Lidl/McDonalds car park with loads of other European campervans – must be the done thing? Slept in the back with some left over rolls from lunch for dinner. Bit of reading before bed, so as I said a very low key end to our time in Spain but looking forward to hitting Morroco.
SPAIN SUMMARY:
Average costs – Camping: 15€ per night
Diesel: 0.86 – 0.93€ per litre (cheaper at supermarkets eg. Eroski; Carrefour etc.)
