I am offering just a taste of Buenos Aires today as we are sorely deprived of sleep. Neither of us ever sleep on flights but catching up on several good movies is the consolation. If you've not seen Once Upon a Dream in Hollywood I recommend it. I love the surprise when I delight in a movie that I had previously thought might be thin and unimaginative.
Our apartment is situated in the Retiro district of Buenos Aires, the old rich area of the city. We are just a block from the Plaza de San Martin and the beautiful Palacio de San Martin, circa 1905. More about Senor San Martin as we learn it.
After we rested a little while in our new apartment we forced our bleary eyes to open and made ourselves get out and walk a bit. Pure medicine!!! Feeling much better on our walk, we discovered that we are in a lovely historic area and very near the place we stayed in 2015. Buenos Aires is called the Paris of South America. The lovely architecture confirms it.
Summer is in full force here but the weather today was entirely pleasant. We heard parrots calling in the trees as if they ruled the city and all in it. We chatted with a young station guard at the Placio de San Martin where the three of us laughed with each other and at each other as we tried our Espanol and he practiced his English. Fun!!!
As light rain started to fall in the late afternoon, we made our way toward the apartment but stopped off at a market to buy salads and fresh breads for dinner tonight and items for breakfast tomorrow.
It will be an early evening for us tonight. We plan to grow drowsy watching the Argentine version of the cooking channel . . . trying to make out words we understand.
