Week 8 - Was this really the last week in Cape Town?
Greetings from the Drakensberg Mountains.
We left Cape Town on Saturday after a whirlwind final week. We both enjoyed our final week at work and felt sad to leave, as always. In the afternoons we packed in as many new experiences as possible, some of the highlights were having afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson hotel (which is absolute must do when in Cape Town) and walking to the top of the Lion's Head (situated close to table mountain and gives fantastic views around the city and down the Southern peninsula). The book described the walk as a non-strenuous hike but in actual fact walking up hill for an hour and half, climbing up chain ladders and very steep ridges was more than slightly strenuous!! It was worth it though. We made the most of our final coast walks and Jonny saw a whale very close-up in St James' bay. Dipa finished at Monkey Biz on the Thursday in order to do an all-day mosaic workshop and she made a mosaic photo frame (which had lots of purple on it of course!!). We also picked up our final gifts to take home and we are way over the luggage limit (have had to buy an extra bag). We will worry about this though in 2 weeks time!! During the last week we have also visited a South African pub with our friend Daniel, which made us think of home (although we did sit in the beer garden, which obviously wouldn't be possible in England!!).
On saturday, after saying good bye to Cape Town, we flew into Durban on the East coast of South Africa. Durban is known as being home to the biggest Indian population outside of India and so naturally we headed straight for an Indian restaurant, which was amazing and has curbed our craving for Indian food for a little while. We decided not to spend any time in Durban but head straight out, a few hours in-land, to an area called the Midlands. As we are touring around KwaZulu Natal state for the next couple of weeks we will write about everything in our last blog once we are home.
Turning our attention to Jonny's 'Animal of the Week': this week it is the Ostrich. Not only are they cute, funny and very cheeky, but they are also very nice to eat!! They make very nice biltong (a cured dry meat, a bit like jerky)! Sorry to all the vegetarians and ostrich lovers.
Lastly, happy first wedding anniversary to Rena and Jeurgen and also Congratulations to Neel and Sapna for the birth of Avni Mandalia (cant wait to meet your gorgeous new arrival very soon).
We hope you are all well and see you very soon.
