We made it!!
Flights were all good! I was very impressed with Delta airline; the staff were very friendly and it was all very laid back. I now know why Americans are fat though: I have never been given so much food and drink on a flight! I now have a rucksack packed with food I couldn't eat to save money on meals (already in backpacker saving mode).
The first flight from Heathrow to Atlanta was 8.5 hours. It was on time and only 2/3's full. I spent most of the flight doing puzzles and Harriet watched a couple of films. We dozed a bit in between the constant refreshments! I had tofu and minted pea mash for my first meal- very posh! Poor Harriet was left waiting as I got my meal first being vege and then she had to wait til near the end. We were given 4 meals on that flight.
Then we landed in Atlanta where we had a 4 hour wait but our bags were automatically checked through so that was good. It took ages to get through Customs and immigration and then we mooched a bit before chilling in the departure lounge. I have never seen such a big airport! There was a beautiful storm which we watched out the window. The next flight was about 6 hours and again we were given 3 meals! We slept for most of this flight.
Landed on time, 11.20pm local time, 5.20am at home (so it had been a long day!) and collected bags and stuff. Then we went through to a man stood there with my name on a board (I felt very important) and we jumped in his taxi to the hostel. Slept well and I don't think Harriet was too daunted by all the strangers in the other bunks or the dodgy bedding.
No need for the ice bucket challenge! I had a shower this morning and it was freezing! Had some of the free breakfast, again stocking up on fruit!
Planning to move on to another hostel today nearer the centre and explore the city.
Hope all is well!

Dad Glad journey was fine and looks like Delta Airways is for me. Saw Paul and Emily plus cheeky little Chloe after dropping you two at airport. Had huge breakfast at Deepcut cafe and then on to Goodwood for great race meeting in the sun.Cut grass today and chilled after two busy days. Mum early to bed as also had busy days after Frenchy evicted. Hope yo hear from you again soon x
Paul Good to know you got the boring bit done rather painlessly. We lost all our luggage at Atlanta Airport on the way to Nassau once - it went all the way back to Europe! Tofu and minted pea mash sounds simply disgusting but I'm glad one person on the plane enjoyed it. I remember Chile being mostly steaks, (with lots of avocados and tomatoes), which wouldn't please you too much. Not sure how many veggies there'll be in Peru?
