After an exciting morning spent figuring out that the Anti-Malaria tablets were the cause of my suspicious morning nausea (thanks pharmacy and pee-stick), and playing with Oli the hostel puppy, we head out into the world.
First stop was the giant Mega supermarket/department store (it was gigantic!) for lunch items - fought my way through the Deli shop, looks like our Spanish is getting better! - olives and bread and sun-dried tomatoes, and artesan beers. The next stop was the Parque la Carolina. We picnicked in the park, then visited the Botanical Gardens. It cost us $2 each as Uni students (the guards needed to be introduced to the ISIC cards first), and then saw some plants. Lots of plants. And some fish.
We returned to the supermarket, to buy some ziplock bags (harder to find than you'd think), water bottles and muesli bars, before taking the trolley bus back to the hostel.
The final dinner in Quito was, once again, eaten at Cafe San Blas. Despite the slow service, the reason we loved this place was the excellent quality of the food. With only one woman on the floor, and two in the kitchen, and no spare tables every single night, the food was consistently delightful - and the pizza servings were gigantic!
