So on the Sunday I had a half day - meaning I dont have to be in work till 6pm, and I was lucky enough to be invited on a full day guided safari. This is normally really expensive however the owners allowed me to go on the tour for free, all i had to pay for was my entrance fee into Krugar Park.
It was an early start and I had to be up and ready by 5.30am (ouch). The chefs were kind enough to make a picnic for me to take along for the day, and I was lucky enough to be going with some of the guests that had been staying with us, and had booked the safari. There were a really nice family and made me feel really welcome.
They were late however and over slept, which meant we were late getting into the park.
The vehical we had used was a open top one, meaning when Derek (the driver) was zooming along the road to the nearest gate (which is around a 15 minute drive) i was absolutly freezing. Me being me i didnt bring warm clothes into my suitcase, so there I am in leggings, dollies, t-shirt, hoddie and scarf trying to keep as warm as possible. I didnt suceed, even with the blanket you are given when you get on the car. Once we got to the nearest gate there was a very large queue, however luckily we are able to skip all this. You have to register before you go into the park, so they know how many people are in the park, and ensure that everyone has left at the end of the day.
Once we had gotten into the park, the sun was just rising which was really nice to see. You always know when someone has spotted something becuase all the cars cram together. This time it was a family of lions, only 5 minutes from the gate which is an amazing sightings. There are many times when you can spend the whole day in the park, and not see anything at all, so to see a family of lions zig zagging across the road was amazing. Just my luck my camera died, so im frantically changing the batteries, when the lions decided to walk past the car. I manage to get in one (poor) shot before they all walk away into the bush.
The day was amazing and we managed to see the big five all before 12pm. The big five are; Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo.
We even managed to see a leopard kill, which was just amazing! This leopard was chasing some Impala, where he managed to catch one, he starts dragging it into the bush, where a hyena comes along and steals its kill! The leopard can not touch that kill, now the hyena has it, so it has to find something else.
On the same day that i was in the park this happened.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD6wdrVFc0g ... i would crap my pants!
Anway! I will upload some more pictures for you to have a look at!
