Yesterday was 2 days after Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc in the Greater New York area and the other tri states. The sun came up earlier in the morning- ?a sign of brighter days to come. It was a perfect opportunity to go for a run after having been homebound for a few days...these are what I encountered....major clean up was going on- the sound of chain saws, leaf blowers, the sight of many down trees, electric poles and wires, yellow caution tapes, down trees on houses and cars, Con Edison trucks and workers busy surveying the damage and amount of work that needs to be done, row of UPS trucks on the road, people walking dogs or themselves, busy taking photos like I was.
Unlike coastal communties, we did not have floods but like most (if not all) suburban communities, our damage was mainly from down trees and powerlines. Lots of people left without electricity for two days in a row now. And nobody knows when electricity will be restored. All hotels in the nearby towns are fully booked. People struggling to stay with other family members or friends whose houses were spared from power outage. BUT, it could have been worst. We thank God!
Finally, it looks like the kids, big and small, might just have had a taste of Halloween after all!
