This past weekend found us driving 75 miles up north and west to Dutchess County. Following one of the 101 Things To Do in New York during Fall by TimeOut Magazine- New York, we went in search of the Walkway over the Hudson. The Walkway used to be the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge which first opened in 1889. In 2009, it reopened as a State Historic Park. It is considered to be the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. It is about 1.25 miles long.
Indeed, it was a beautiful, sunny day to go leaf peeping. We were not disappointed. We just wished that we could have gone earlier so that we could have hiked the surrounding areas. There were lots of families with kids and dogs. There were quite a number of people on their bikes. The atmosphere was almost festive.
The leaves were at their best autumn colors- red, brown, orange, yellow, gold. My favorites are the deep red and yellow ones, especially against the backdrop of the deep blue sky embellished with white fluffy clouds. We were lucky to have been able to watch the passing of a long train on the tracks below the Walkway and along the Hudson River.
It was a well spent Sunday. Definitely, one of the advantages of living in a state where there are 4 seasons- we get to appreciate all the gorgeous fall colors.
