Arrived in New Zealand two weeks ago now and I have done something crazy pretty much everyday here!
Began in Auckland and jumped on the kiwi bus to the hot water beach where we all dug holes and sat in the hot water produced from the hot springs below us! Very bizaar sitting on a beach with waves and being very hot!
Some pools were literally boiling and others freezing!
Then we went down to waitomo caves which were amazing. I chose to do a thing called the black water abyss where a group of us had to abseil down a pitch black 35ft hole and then jump on a zip wire in the dark, hop in some rubber tubes and float down the cave circuit and watch the glow worms, then climb up a couple of waterfalls and out we pop!
Pretty incredible experience.
After that we went down to Rotorua which is famous for the hot springs it sits on. Saw loads of boiling mud pools and sulfur lakes... Horrid smell!
I arrived in Taupo where we began an 18km hike across the to tongario alpine crossing and where mount doom is from lord of the rings!
After deciding that I wasn't going to climb mt doom I accidentally followed the path up it with a friend and then decided we may as we'll keep going, whilst not knowing that we were only about an 8th of the way up! And when we reached the top an hour and a half later it was filled with stupid clouds.
Also went to HOBBITON which was amazing. See pictures.
I also decided on doing a bit of cultural activity and went to the Maori evening whereby we were showed all about what talents and techniques they use as Maori like carving wood, face tattooing, fighting and games! We were shown a big concert at the end of all of these techniques and of course the Haka which was incredible!
They gave us our huge dinner called a Hangi (food cooked underground) which was so good after a week of noodles and pasta!
We went down to River Valley where we could do white river rafting on a grade 5 river which of course I did! It was literally so much fun with all the commands of what to do and at the same time keeping the raft afloat over these huge technical drops and rapids. After a great few hours we could jump off a rock into the river, I stupidly decided to do a forward flip, followed by an over rotation and going face first into the water, biting my lip and forgetting everything including my name and which country I was in!
Arriving in Wellington was a very happy surprise, thought it was going to be another horrible sky scraper city but Lotte and I went for a walk in the sunshine and went to the Te Papa museum and sat and had a coffee by the water front which was a lovely afternoon! (And then finding $5 sushi!!!)
We got the ferry down to the South Island and arrived near Abel Tasman national park where I went kayaking around yesterday and saw three penguins and one dead one! They were so tiny and cute!
And today i was booked onto the sky dive but cancelled due to clouds! Off to Westport today.
Sorry such a long blog but have done a lot!
Lots of love
