Bula!! (Fijian for Hello!) We had planned for the last week of our trip to be pure relaxation after 5 weeks of constant travelling and thats exactly what we got! We stayed on Vomo Island which is an hours boat ride from the mainland. We arrived during the evening and were greeted by our welcoming song and then whisked away to the Fijian evening. A group performed traditional Fijian songs and dances and of course i was chosen out of the other guests to go up and join in the dancing!! We then took part in a traditional 'Kava' ceremony where the group present the guests with the Kava drink to welcome them to Fiji. It tasted like muddy water!!! This was also the only night that the guests all ate communally at a long table which was nice as we got to know a few people!
The island itself was just beautiful, crystal waters and palm trees everywhere. You have to be careful of the falling coconuts but apparently they have eyes so look down before they fall!! They have a bar at one end of the island where we watched the sunset most evenings which overlooks Vomo lai lai which is a mini island where the bats live! Vomo island is also famous for its turtle programme where they try and save as many eggs as they can as many baby turtles are killed and they are becoming The staff were just fantastic and welcoming and knew our names by day 2 as there are only 30 villas on the island. Ours was on the hillside and was beautiful with a gorgeous seaview!
During the week we sunbathed most of the day (Bliss) and went snorkelling which was just fantastic. The island is surrounded by reefs so you dont have to go far off the shore to see some amazing coral and fish. We got to see puffa fish, bright blue star fish, sea cucumbers, rainbow fish, and the guide dragged me off to follow a reef shark!! Never thought in my life id chase a shark!! But they are fairly small and dont really like humans thank goodness!
Fiji was just the most beautiful place and really is a paradise and we would recommend it to anyone!
P.s As im sure you all know by now i came back with an extra piece of jewellery on my finger!! :-) x
