Soooo. First week in Aus. Arrived on Saturday 6th to rain, not ideal. Soph wasnt in the best of moods with me as had had managed to sleep for the whole 8 hour flight whereas she had had zero hours. Liam and Tara met us at the airport and we headed to Annandale. Once we had dumped our stuff at Liam's we went for the most amazing breakfast ever experienced by man (see picture of pancakes). By the time we had finished it had warmed up so we strolled back to the house and fell asleep for 7 hours. After feeling refreshed we went for a meal in Newtown, the student area where Tara lives and had Thai whcih was delish.
Next day we decided to explore the area and buy ourselves a bed. Found our new favourite store called Bi-Lo which is the Aussie equivalent to Aldi. Bought ourselves some vital groceries: noodles, cereal and toilet roll. Then went to K mart and bought our inflatable matresses for our nights sleeping in the garage, which isn't that bad at all.
Monday we decided to have a day of relaxing so took two buses to Bondi beach. Whilst here we scoped out possible hostels and I managed to get 3rd degree burns on my shoulder, foot and stomach. Other than the pain it was a gooood day.
Tuesday we started the job hunt (after another round of pancakes) in Newtown and found a couple of places which may be interested. We then headed into the city to continue in our new found favourite thing. CITY BUS TOURS!!!! We obviously bought the 48 hour ticket (which we managed to abuse for 3 days) but this day we just did the full tour, only getting off for some food and drinks at the Sydney opera house.
Wednesday was fun filled to say the least. Bus tour again, first stop the botanical gardens. As the pictures show,it was gorgeous. We then went to the Australian museum which had an amazing dinosaur exhibition, and also a snake which i was 100% sure was fake untill it moved and was clearly wanting to eat me. We then got back on the bus to Darling harbour to meet Liam fro some lunch. At this point it was the hottest it had been for the whole of our time in Aus. That was until we sat down to eat and the skies opened for a torrential downpour. Luckily Soph had brought the stylish poncho I had bought her but alas I was without cover. Luckily the city bus tour store was near by and i was able to get an umberella. Much to Sophs happiness it had a massive Australian flag on. We didn't look like tourist at all... We then braved the rain to go to the other side of the harbour to the Maritime museum. I cant really say whether this was good or not as 15 mins after we arrived it shut. It kept us dry though.
On Thursday we made our way over to Bondi, via the city bus tour, where we were staying for the next 3 days. Our accomodation was the luxurious Noah's hostel which overlooked the beach. It was actually really good. Just a basic hostel but it was clean and near the beach which is all we needed. It also had a bar downstairs which was a great place to meet fellow backpackers, we met a few good people but so far no one to write home about. Most people were just passing through so weve not really made many good friends yet.
Basically all we did at bondi was sunbathe. We moved to Bronte beach one of the days we were there but again, all we did was sunbathe. On Sunday we got back to Annandale and whilst Liam was busy revising, his housemates Aiden and Marty took Soph and Myself to the Newtown Festival, something that happens every year. It was basically a local music festival with the standard stores selling t-shirts etc whilst the bands play. It was really good. the weather was gorgeous so we spent the day listening to a few ska bands, whilst drinking a few cans of beer. We then headed to the pub for a few games of pool which I was useless at and Soph was relatively ok.
Now the job hunting begins. Wish us luck!!!!
Missing you all xxx
