G'day Mate!
We arrived back in Brisbane on Saturday afternoon where we were met by Maddie and Sam at the train station. After three days of camping we were looking forward to returning to Wynnum for some more home comforts! We spent the rest of the day chilling out, chatting to the Langthorne's about our Fraser Island trip and doing our washing. On Sunday we all ventured to Noosa for the day, it is about two hours from the Langthorne's and we had left blazing sunshine behind, expecting the same for Noosa - unfortunately it started to rain as soon as we lay down on the beach! Noosa is a lovely little town with modern houses and clearly full of well-off people as many of the houses had jetties on the backs of their gardens for their boats! Despite the rain we were still able to have lunch and cool down with a cold drink before we called it a day and headed back to Wynnum.
Since we began planning our trip to Australia, Sophie had seen there was a koala sanctuary in Brisbane and had wanted to go there. So, on Monday, Maddie took us to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary for the day. The sanctuary is home to a couple of hundred koalas as well as dingoes, birds, lizards, platypus, Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, wombats and many other animals. For $16 each we were able to cuddle up to a koala for a photo! On the way home Maddie took us to Mount Coot-Tha, a lookout which allows you to see the whole city and, on a clear day, you can see the Moreton Bay islands - we were much luckier for this trip and had fantastic weather which, in turn, allowed us to see the fantastic views. We stopped off at Da Vinci's for a nice lunch before we headed home and enjoyed the afternoon on the balcony.
Tuesday came and we planned to go into Brisbane City for the day to have a shop around as Sophie's camera had fallen victim to the elements during our Fraser Island trip, unfortunately it was a relatively unsuccessful shopping trip but it allowed us to see what Brisbane City has to offer. It is big! Kie arranged to meet Mick, a friend from home, so Sophie and Maddie continued shopping without him! That evening Kie went off to rugby training with Mick and stayed the night nearer Brisbane City while Sophie returned to Wynnum with Maddie and enjoyed an evening on the sofa watching a chick flick! It was round Mick's house that Kie was able to try his first taste of kangaroo - for breakfast! Kie was treated to steak and kangaroo sausages which he thought were amazing! Kangaroo is known for being an extremely healthy meat to eat as it is 98% fat free, it's a shame kangaroos are so cute really!
Wednesday 26th January - Australia Day. A day the Aussies celebrate being Aussie by hanging the Australian flag out, having the day off and enjoying the sunshine with fellow Aussies! Everywhere was really busy, especially the seafront which was packed out with families having BBQs! The Langthorne's had arranged a small gathering at their house where we were joined by their friends and neighbours for a meal and lots of snacks - we ate far too much but had a thoroughly good day. Everyone left at around 6pm so we chilled out in the living room watching TV but by 10pm we were shattered and decided to go to bed for what was to be our final sleep at the Langthorne's.
We are now headed to Surfers Paradise before moving further down the coast to Byron Bay. We just want to say a massive 'THANK YOU' to Maddie, Richard and Sam for having us to stay in their lovely house, making us feel very welcome and feeding us up! We really appreciate you looking after us and taking us out on day trips to see more of Brisbane and its surroundings, we really enjoyed ourselves!
Lots of love, Sophie and Kie xx

Maddie Hi guys, as I have already said you are both more than welcome. We really enjoyed having you here. The Koala Sanctuary was great fun, especially when Sophie had hold of the Koala that pooped on her lol. We were just pleased you had a nice time and were glad you liked Brissie as much as we do. We were lucky at Mt Coot-Tha with the lovely weather and we could see for miles, and Wynnum from a distance haha. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Sam is enjoying the xbox. lol.
