Wednesday 21st Feb:
As it was the start of lent today, we have decided that we are going to give up chips for the weeks! Lets see how long this one lasts! We went to the super market to get our supplies for the Ghan journey. We bought pasta, tomato sauce, grated cheese and as a treat some chocolate fingers. We sunbathed outside when we got back although couldn't do it for long as it was too hot.
We had a new room mate for the night, a rather large lady who wasn't shy about stripping off in front of us! She was very patronising as she was quite a bit older and we were both going to shot her later as every turn she made in her bed created the mattress to make an annoying squeak throughout the night which kept us up while she snored on.
To add to our luggage we invested in a cool bag, plastic cultlery, a freezer block and a tuuperwear box. This was to carry our pasta etc in on the Ghan. For dinner we had bit of grated cheese on dry pasta - another culinary masterpiece!
Thursday 22nd Feb:
Went out for full english breakfast before we set off on th nightmare journey.........
Lots of aboriginals in our carraige and lots of kids with them who didn't smell too good. They kept going to the showers right by us throughout the journey to sneak cigarettes and consequently set of the smoke detector alarm in the middle of the night which woke us from our already disturbed sleep! We did not get much sleep as you can imagine and were cream crackered after 20 hours and not looking forward to our 10 hour greyhound bus journey to Melbourne in the evening.
