After a day of trains, planes (but no automobiles) we finally arrived in sub-zero Beijing. Unfortunately, the Guangtong Modern Hotel proved a wee bit elusive... taxi drivers, random hoteliers, locals and even the Police claimed to have no idea where it was. Eventually after a couple of hours of wandering in the bitter cold we located it!! And it was generally worth the walk... clean and comfortable for a tenner a night each! One note of caution though... Just had to share the shower arrangement - see photo. 'Ealth and safety'???!!!! The shower is actually amazing.... after turning the electricity off with a rubber handled toothbrush of course!!
Went out last night for the most amazing food - discovering that northern Chinese food is much spicier than its southern equivalent.
Off now to experience the delights of Beijing, meeting a friend of Sam's in Tiananmen Square and then off to dinner at the home of a family she met at Tiger Leaping Gorge. We visited M&S in Hong Kong to bring them yummies from the UK. It looks like the local KFC for breakfast.... Apparently it costs a whole 60p!! I will try to persuade them to walk on by but the poster does look fingerlickin good!!!
Time to dash, it sounds like Susie has survived the shower....

Dawn Is this evidence of why we don't see large numbers of Chinese plumbers or electricians in the UK; maybe one person can do both jobs without electrocuting themselves. A great talent indeed!
