Soongies' Great Adventure
After a much needed rest, Calvin, Kate, Jeroen and Rianne woke up excited for the day! Today we were going skiing! From our chalet, we could see the snow capped peaks of the mountains surrounding us and the sunlight coming out.
But first, we needed to sort out where to get our ski passes, lessons and equipment (probably a good start).
After breakfast, we walked to the tourist centre near our chalet to find out some information. The lady said we had to go to the main tourist office in the centre to figure it out. So we caught the free shuttle bus to the centre and went to the École de Ski office to get our ski passes and lessons. We were meant to start our lesson at 9:15 am however, it was about 10:00 am already by the time we got the passes all sorted. Fortunately, there were lessons scheduled for the afternoon which gave us time to get our equipment from a shop called 'Chalvin', get some groceries and have some lunch (baguette with Camembert and Brie). Jeroen and Calvin also had time experimenting on their skis going on the slope next to the chalet down to the chairlift and down a green run - Demoiselles - back to the chalet.
In the afternoon, it was a bit tricky walking uphill in our ski boots carrying skis and poles to the shuttle bus. We eventually made it there and got to our lessons on time.
We all got a bit separated, Kate went in a beginners group with some others, Jeroen and Rianne were in another beginners group, and Calvin went in a more experienced beginners group.
Kate's instructor mostly spoke in French to the other people so she had to ask a girl in the group to translate for her. Kate was one of the best in her group as the others kept falling over. Snow plow learnt and achieved.
Jeroen and Rianne had a mostly English speaking group. They learnt a lot about putting on skis and taking them off, stopping backwards, snow plow and practicing going downhill from the top of a j-bar.
Calvin's instructor, James, taught his group to do snow plow turns and practiced some slaloms down the slope. As Calvin has skied before but hadn't had a lot of lessons, it was good to relearn the basics properly.
Once we all got home, we were extremely hungry and Jeroen and Rianne cooked pasta with chicken and bechamel sauce which was devoured quite quickly!
Then we played some Bananagrams (in English and Dutch!).
