Planning the journey
Hamar, Norway
So.. Around the world in under a year.. Is it possible?
The plan is to travel mostly on the ground ie. avoid plane rides, and to see the world during the whole journey.
I'll start in Norway, walk, hike, bike, train, bus, boat or whatever, down to the south-east corner of Europe over to Asia. All the way to Japan, down to the Phillippines, west back into Laos, south to Malaysia and Singapore. Skipping from island to island until I reach the nort of Australia, making my way down to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne boat to Tasmania, boat to New Zealand and hop on a freighter to Canada (which I have yet to check is possible at all..).
The journey will then continue through the states visiting cities like San Francisco, Los Angels, Las Vegas before road-tripping Route 66 to the east coast, before making my way south and then east again. Down through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador etc., to Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Chile then back to Uruguay, or at least the east cost of South-America.
Hop on yet another freighter headed to South-Africa, and make my way up the east cost of Africa until reaching Egypt where I'll take a boat or maybe catch a plane to Malta, then Italy, up through western Europe. Ending the trip in England, before heading back to Norway by boat.
Phew... and that's just the basics of the trip.
It might take some time, but I'll update the blog with full travel plan and list of countries I plan on exploring on my journey around the world.

SonnySky Quick update: Brief research and google'ing show that it is in fact possible to travel by freighter ships, however it is more expensive than planes, so I'll use the airways over the vast oceans..
