Monday Day 16
Got up had breakfast, made lunch and hit the highway about lunch time.We are going to check out Bundaberg, its about an hour and a half from Helens house in Maryborough. Got to Bundaberg had lunch at Alexandra park/ zoo, seen some emu's, lizards, ducks and other animals there and the best thing is that it was free! They have this walk-way that goes over Burnett river, we went for a walk along it and seen a lizard in the wild! ( a Monitor.) Got heaps of photos.
Went to The Bundaberg Barrel, got some more photos.
Went and checked out Oaks Beach they have a turtle trail there but we didnt walk along it as it was too windy for Deklan. Went to Bargara a little further up the road, stopped to check out good fishing spots on a map next to a boat ramp!
Drove around a bit further to Nielsen Beach, was absolutely beautiful! Took quiet a few photos and watched as a storm was quickley approaching us, I tried to get photos of the lightening but I just wasnt quick enough! Started to head back to Maryborough about 4:30pm, took the scenic route out of town! As we hit the highway about 5:00pm it was getting darker and darker, lightning, thunder and down pours of rain, was a bit scary. The Tarago stalled every time we hit water on the road, that was probley the scariest part, scared of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with 5 kids! Finally got through the storm "I knew my Tarago wouldnt let us down!" Had about 15km to go till we hit Maryborough and we look up and see more lightning out across the sky in front of us, then Tony spots a sign "Dead Mans Gully" geez this is great, what a freaky night!
Made it to Maryborough about 6:30pm, got some fish and chips and went back to Helens. Had a great day and a very interesting night, the kids were all very well behaved and had a great day too.
