Soph And Alice Take On The World!
6th MARCH
Today was a very early start for us as we had to get the ferry to Picton on the south island. We slept most of the way, it was wierd being a foot passenger on a ferry! we felt like we should be going to france!! When we arrived in Picton we got straight on the bus which took us into Nelson. The place we stayed was lovely, they even cooked everyone off the bus a roast beef dinner mmmm mmmm!
7th MARCH
Today a group of us got up at stupid o clock so we could get the bus into the Abel Tasman National Park. However when the bus, which we were told we didnt have to book arrived it was full so we couldnt get on it!! A bit stuck we walked around the town trying to find another bus station but passed a car rental place on the way, it turned out it was cheaper to do it that way anyway so we rented an 8 seater for the day!
Despite the crappy weather it was still fun. We stopped at a supermarket on the way and bought a picnic lunch but when we got there the weather was bad we ended up eating it out of the boot of the car! Unfortunately we don't have many pictures of this day as both our cameras had died!
8th MARCH
Today we left Nelson and made our way to Westport. On the way we stopped at Lake Rotoiti for lunch, very beautiful! When we got into Westport we stopped off at the Buller Gorge and a few of us went jet boating. Its so much fun, basically a stunt boat that goes really fast can do spins and can go in just 10cm water! it was pretty fun! we then got into westport which is a TINY little town, nothing much to do here so we just chilled and had a few drinks.
9th MARCH
ANOTHER early start this morning. Now on our way to Lake Mahinapua. This was porbably one of the best nights we've had in NZ. Along the way we were dropped off at the start of a 2 hour walk at Tarangua Bay, very scenic, saw seals and what we thought was a kiwi bird!
We stopped for another couple of walks along the coast to check out the pancake rocks at Punakaiki. Didnt look that much like pancakes really! We were told that that night we were staying at a place called the poo pub which is in the middle of nowhere and is owned by an 80 yr old man.. Les Lisle! We were going to have a fancy dress party and everyone had to incorporate bin bags into their costume! We went as burglers, looked pretty good at the beginning but unfortunately Soph's craftwork skills are not too hot and her black hat turned red after the first 10mins..not a very discreet burgler!
Everyone came up with awesome ideas and it was a wicked night! the 4 swedish guys that dressed up as the turtles won a free bungy jump for having the best costumes! as you can tell from the pics, it was a lot of fun! Les is a legend!
10th MARCH
All slightly hungover today we had to hop on the bus and make our way to Franz Josef. It was a beautiful day today, bit of a shame we were on the bus for most of it but we did stop off at a beach for lunch which was cool. when we got into franz everyone was so nakered from the night before we all just crashed out!
11th MARCH
Today we did a full days glacier hike! it was pretty cool..we had the spikes on our shoes and pick axes to pull ourselves up over the glacier, we climbed into ice caves and both did it in shorts..we're so brave! :) the views were amazing, it was a pretty cool day!
When we got back we all got into the hottub for a bit and then went for an indian..mmmm mmm! we went to the one bar in town and had a pretty good night.
12th MARCH
Feeling VERY tired and a little sore we got on the bus at 7 and made our way to Wanaka. Wanaka is a lovely place and the hostel we stayed in was so nice! we wanted to stay here for 2nights and have a day just to chill but the bus was full so we could only stay one! We had such a good nights sleep we almost missed the bus the next day!
13th MARCH
QUEENSTOWN!!! We love it here! on the way we stopped at the worlds first commercial bungy site, quite a few people from our bus decided they were going to do it on a spur of the moment. Others booked to do the Nevis for the next day. The Nevis is the highest bungy in NZ, 134m!! After saying the whole time she's been in NZ she would 'never do a bungy jump' Soph got peer pressured into paying for it! 12 tomorrow...AHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Everyone from our bus went out tonight, it was awesome! can't believe we're gona have to say goodbye to them all soon!
14th MARCH Doomsday!
Soph had trouble sleeping last night worrying about throwing herself off a gondola hanging above a valley at 134m! Alice woke up trying to reassure her but couldnt stop laughing! Al came to the site to watch, she got harnessed up and came to the gondola and everything just didnt jump, unfortunately she wasnt allowed to do it because of her back! (what a shame!!) Soph LOVED IT!!! its the best feeling in the world, after the initial feeling of 'O my god i think iv just committed suicide!' its amazing! Wait til you see the pics! Bloody Brilliant!!!
Obviously had to go out and celebrate tonight..We met up with Nadia and Aislinn, it was so good to see them!
15th MARCH
Today we had to get up at 6am to go to Milford Sound. To be honest we were a bit disappointed by it! We were told it was like going to Egypt and not seeing the pyramids but unfortunately we had the crappest day for it! You could tell it was beautiful but it was SO cold and rainy and cloudy that you couldn't really see much and could only stand at the from of the boat for 5mintues before your face nearly froze!
When we got back guess what...we had to go out again! It was a lot of our friends from the bus' last night and so we had to go and say farewell! once again a lovely night with everyone!
16th MARCH
We got up and waved everyone off and then went straight back to bed! We are absolutely exhausted today!! havent really done much at all! As you can probably tell NZ has been very tiring but amazing at the same time, its gone so fast because we've been constantly on the go! plans for next few days: Tomorrows Paddy's Day so we're going out with nad and ash to celebrate that then we're heading up to Christchurch on the 18th to get ready for our flight to Oz.
17th MARCH
Happy St Paddy's day!!Today we were all up for a big one seeing as Nad and Aislin were in town!!We met up for early drinks in an Irish pub and then decided to get our faces painted. Bit of a rip off actually as the Shamrocks just looked like green blobs on our faces! As you can see from the Photos we got pretty into it and it was a wicked night out. We have to get the bus tomorrow and it isn't sounding too good right now considering it's going to be the longest drive we've had to make!
18th MARCH
Today we set off for our last destination, Christchurch after a massive night, an 8 hour bus journey was the last thing we wanted to do. Christchurch is lovely and reminds us of back home. We are staying in tonight and have just cooked a lovely Spaghetti Bolognaise!!tomorrow is going to be a lazy day as we need to get some rest!!
We love you, we miss you, we hope your all ok x x x x x x x
