Day 7 Friday 2nd Nov - Jaipur Carpet & Textile Buying & Back to Delhi
Today is the end of the Taj tour, Norm and Rob have left for Sri Lanka whilst Rose and Les take a separate ride to their destination to see the tigers. The rest of us checkout and make a stop at a textile printing demonstration and carpet making. Russ & I were not that bothered but boy was I blown away. So much so we ended up having 2 rugs shipped back home and bought a beautiful Pashmina and a beautiful throw to keep me warm in the winter evenings. Never spent so much on a shawl but AJ and members of our group say I have a bargain! The rugs and carpets too apparently so it makes us feel better having got blown away and buying! The rug for the lounge is so soft, it has been made by the tribesmen in the desert from Camel hair, you can tell the difference between the camel and wool, even though the wool is soft too the camel is ultra soft! I asked for rugs with elephants and they showed us 5, I chose a silk one, I might even put it on the wall.
The owner in the textile shop tried his hardest to get us to buy many items, Russ mentions as we are paying it is my birthday and he then takes us over to some sarongs and gives us 2 for free!! He keeps saying how he loves our smiley happy faces and produces his card, he writes his name and tells us next time we visit contact him and he will provide car, driver and stay at his home!!
The journey back to to Delhi went very quick for me, after our long long day yesterday I caught up on a lot of sleep! The roads so Russ tells me were full of lorries carrying goods from city to city. As per norm here random camels lay in the middle of the highway oblivious to the noise and heavy traffic around them, sleeping.
The Trident hotel we check in at for one night before flying to Cochin is enormous, blew us away so lavish with cascades of water, infinity pools everywhere. The lobby’s aroma of fresh lilies was amazing. This is the first time we have reached a hotel in the day light (16:30) the pool area was just beautiful.
Heading down to the bar to meet the others around 7 the whole pathways are lit up with candles and lanterns. Very romantic. Food, again, as always was scrumptious with service as have the other Trident hotels superb. The staff at all the hotels except for some at the ITC in Jaipur have been the most friendly polite people we have met. Nothing is too much and they are really interested about our journey in India and where we live.
