Finally, after all the planning, the excitement, the drama, the last minute changes, the doctors appointments, the tears, the 'oh god please don't make me go, why the f*** have I done this to myself', the reassurance, the wise words and the goodbyes... after all that, I managed to reach South East Asia.
There was a point where it wasn't seeming so likely, and there were some times when I didn't think I'd be able to make myself go. But that was the point of the whole thing really - I want to see if I can do this. I want to throw myself in at the deep end and see what happens. No point in spending my life splashing around in the kids' pool, right? I know its got a slide and everything, but once you've been on it a few times it gets pretty boring. Life becomes predictable. Time to mix it up and do something a bit scary.
So my exciting adventure into the deep end started at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, where I took a train to Hamburg Airport. My travelling outfit was what only can be described as a Bex classic - the old 'Homeless Lesbian' look. Baggy trousers, baggy hoody, woolly socks with loafers. FIT. This sexual choice of attire managed to keep me warm without requiring me to lug a winter coat to Asia.
Then I get on the plane and had the best flight ever. Seriously. Ok, maybe I've not been on many fancy planes, but Emirates is the s***.
Reasons why my flight was awesome:
- 3 seats to myself. BOOM! Yeah, that's right... I just lay down for most of the flight like a princess.
- i watched 5 episodes of himym and Harry potter and played Bejeweled
- there was this really nice hand and body lotion in the toilets. I just put it all over my face, it was tingly.
Dubai airport was hayuge and shiny, and I was really tired so I had a Haagen daaz ice cream.
Then came the flight of death to Bangkok. Screaming baby, all the way there. ALL THE WAY. I arrived in Bangkok sleepless and nervous, but full of anticipation for the beginning of my journey.
