Homeward bound…
I had an email from the Staples Center to say that I hadn't been successful in the draw for MJ Memorial Tickets, so next stop was O'Hare, via Milwaukee for a bit of sightseeing.
Al Capone owned a property in Brookfields, a Milwaukee suburb. It is still a residential property so it's location is hard to find, but I thought I;'d cracked it when I found Capone Court. This is a very small cul de sac and only two houses qualify on age, and I think that neither is it. Today's album contains a picture of each.
Rod Stewart sang "What made Milwaukee famous, made a loser out of me". Quite a few breweries were based there, with Millers being the only well known one still active in the town, and in a joint operation they also brew Coors there. So, Rod, it was beer was it?
Petrol in Illinois is, in places, over $2.95. The cheapest I've seen it on my route was $2.37 - that's quite some difference. I had paid top dollar for a full tank when I collected the car, which meant I could take it back empty. The needle had dropped below the red marker as a pulled in, so I got my money's worth.
Today's newspaper was reporting that many States are raising hotel tax to help balance their budgets, so maybe I'm just getting out in time! Mind you, sterling has been gradually rising against the dollar while I've been here, and is probably 3% more favourable than when I began.
