Arriving late at night we could not really see much of what the island looked like except that it seemed so much quieter than places we had been previously. We checked into the 'Noren Resort' and were very happy with room...it was a bungalow with clean bathroom and no bed bugs in sight! On our first full day on the island we explored a bit and walked along the neighbouring area named White Sands where one of the main tourist beaches is situated. Jack booked a days diving trip here too which he was all set to do on the Tuesday... That was until the storm struck and parts of the island flooded! Jack's diving had to be cancelled twice due to the weather and lack of visability whilst we had no power for nearly 48 hours! We had not been able to flush the toilet or use the taps and had to sit by candleight of a night..its ok though as we found making shadow puppets on the walls was a good way to pass the time, haha! We heard that some people had died who lived up in the mountains due to land slides so counted ourselves lukcy that we were based where we were. Once the power eventually came on though, we were greeted by rain and yet more rain..we were a bit gutted as this was supposed to be the relaxing beach break after Cambodia! We did however manage to squeeze in some elephant trekking, the rain luckily held of for a few hours as we got to explore the jungle aboard the beautiful elephants at a camp in white sands. Jack even got to wash them and swim with them in a river...I think he felt a bit tarzan ;) Eventually he also got to do his diving while Ellie and I soaked up the only full day of sun we had in Koh Chang by sitting by the pool!
