The universal bizarre weather that we are all experiencing is occurring in Florida too.Fortunately for us though, it is uncommonly hot here for this time of year. We are enjoying temperatures in the 80s with more sunshine than we know what to do with.We drove down the Keys today and spent the afternoon snorkelling in the Atlantic in what felt like hour old bathwater. Yesterday we took a boat to the first ever Underwater National Park and snorkelled around the reef. When you look up close at the variety and colours of all the remarkable creatures in the most gorgeous turquoise water, you wonder how God ever thought it all up in such a short time. Creation must have been like the ultimate art experiment! ...spots, dots, stripes, flecks, speckles... Personally I think the manatee might have been God's first attempt (based on what my first model might have looked like), and the platypus His last (as it seems to be a handful of leftover parts)!? Regardless, the world beneath the ocean is as miraculous as the one above it.
We meet people daily in our comings and goings whose reactions when they hear of our sabbatical year, vary from alarm to affirmation but tend to the latter. Strangers we haven't yet met approach us to ask what we are doing or why we are so far from home (4400 miles so far). Almost inevitably the younger generation says, "I wish we could do that!" and the older generation says, "I wish we had done that!" We are often asked what the highlight has been so far. That is probably the most difficult question to answer. For each of us the highlights are as different as we are. But a lady on our snorkelling tour yesterday came up to Tim and me to tell us what a wonderful family she thought we were (?).She was such an honest and beautiful person I was blessed beyond emotion. To her question, I shared that the highlight of our entire trip for me is the rainy days where we stay snuggled up inside our little home together.I love hearing everyone breathe at night.I love having naps on long travel days, because we aren't in a rush to get anywhere anytime. I love budgeting together, planning together, playing together, praying together, and experiencing everything we do each day together. This is the most "together" we've ever been.It is at times quite a challenge, but deep in my heart I know, as the lovely lady saw, it is the highlight of who we are right now.
May you also find the highlight of togetherness in random moments of every day!
