I'm going to throttle my iPhone. Set the alarm for 7am to get a bright and early start. Stupid phone thinks it's still in Spanish waters which are 1 hour ahead of Portugal. Not being the brightest matelot on the crew it took me 15 minutes to work out, by which time I was up and ready to go. You have no idea how deserted a cruise ship is at 6.15 of a morning.
The ship docked at Leixios near Oporto at 9am and we were suitably impressed with the efficient organisation of shuttle buses to the town and were in Oporto by 10am. Quite chilly but a lovely sunny day. Oporto doesn't stir much before 11am unless they own an iPhone! Part of it (Ribeira) is a World Heritage site, but then Glasgow was a City of Culture! But seriously, Oporto is Portugal's 2nd city situated on the north bank of the Douro river and was part of the Roman Empire in the 4th century. It developed as an important seaport and is now famous for the port wine produced exclusively in the Douro valley. The Ribeira district features medieval valleys and stone paved roadways with lots of cafes and restaurants. Evidence of the port wine trade was all along the river - Sandemans wine cellars for one and the old boats loaded with wooden casks.
Just seen a school of dolphins diving along side the ship - typical - no camera!
