hi all,
I will try to keep this blog chirpy - even though I feel I need a good old grumble.
SUNDAY
Decided to escape the concentration camp for another hostel. The guy who picked me and christina (my lemon partner)up was a bit vague about work but we thought it best to move anyway. We moved into a little apartment across from the new hostel with a german girl and a french couple, they all seem nice enough. It seems that anyone who doesn't have good enough english to do office jobs, comes to bundy to do slavery.
Bundy is crap. Christina and i went food shopping on sunday and EVERYTHING was shut. The place just seems to close completley. Luckily we found a liquor store and bought a small bottle of cider each. We aren't allowed alcohol at the hostel but we sneaked it in and pretended we were drinking tea! Think we could have done with more than one bottle!
MONDAY
Got up at 4.30 am for a 5am pick up. Yes thats right, 4.30AM!!!! It took 45 minutes to get to the farm and most people sleep the whole way to the farm. My group started at 6, planting capsicum (pepper) seedlings. It was weird, 5 of us had to sit on these little seats on the back of a tractor and pop the seedlings into the little puddly holes that the tractor made. The rest had to move the metal shelves about and hang off the tractor. It was quite easy but a bit brain draining after a few hours. I was working with 3 koreans, 2 germans and 2 european guys (couldn't quite tell which nation they were from). One of the european guys bugged the hell out of me the whole day. He was being major bossy all day. I think he thought that he was being cool and i think he thought that we thought he was cool - nothing could be further from the truth!!!
A million ants had gotten into my bag and had located my lunch before i did so I had to sit on my own listening to foreign chat and watching them eat their exciting lunches.
Got chatting to one korean girl who seemed really nice and even helped me put the plants in the holes when I jammed my finger in the truck (very sore). I got back at 6pm last night so went to bed early as i was up at 4.30 am again this morning.
Today i did some more planting of the peppers and then helped the guys plant watermelons. Me and this norwegian girl kiya are the only 2 girls to ever do the watermelon picking, and now I know why!!! My hands are covered in cuts, my legs are burning from the chemicals and I'm going to have serious back ache tomorrow from bending down all day. It was really hot and alot of hard work but we got finished around 1pm. I've never eaten so much watermelon in all my life!!
tonight i'll probably be in bed early again no doubt - ah the life of a traveller eh!!!
