Had an early breakfast as set off at 8am for pyramid trip. Gail and Tim came on the pyramid trip which was good as we split the cost of the driver. We were all very tired because we didnt get too sleep till 5am due to lots of noise outside. Tim said he had got up to see what all the noise was about and there was a bit fight between the locals and eyptians from luxor.
Driving in Cairo is a bit scarey as everyone cuts everyone up and constantly toots their horn. They dont have many pedestrian crossings so its a case of crossing the road when there is a gap. Traffic is always busy whatever time of day.
Arrived in Giza and never seen so many camels on the road. We met our guide for the trip and were asssigned our camels for the 3 hour ride.
After a short while we got used to riding the camel and tried to take photos on the move.
our guide was called Sam and he told us that it took thirty years to do the Pyramids, 10 years to transport the stone from luxor, 10 years to cut it and 10 years to construct it. Took lots of photos and trying to download them onto this site.
The sphinx was more impressive than the periods which is located in front of one of the pyramids. Lots of touts and tourists which made the last bit of the tour a bit stressful.....
Our driver then took us to get some lunch. Had some delicious humous and aubergine dip and lamb kofta. After lunch our driver took us to the stepped pyramid in Saqqara and the heat was very intense as it was in the middle of nowhere, museum was interesting but a little too much in one day.
Returned to hostal and met an irish guy who gave us lots of good advice about Dahab and luxor. He was in Egypt on honeymoon and told us lots of stories about his travels.
